Alice Curry

ALICE CURRY, a staple volunteer since 2004, selflessly dedicated 22 years in 28th Ward service to community.

She currently serves with Alderman Jason C. Ervin, formerly with Alderman Ed Smith, Mayors Richard J. Daley and Rahm Emanuel, and 11th District CPD Beat No. 1113 CAPS, receiving their service awards in 2011 and 2013. She fondly relishes direct engagements with Commanders Dana Starks, Claudell Ervin, Eric Washington and Officer Robinson—achieving an Honorable Service Award for Dedicated Service to Seniors in Springfield, Illinois. She has also partnered with local leaders, churches, legendary Detroit Piston basketball great Isaiah Thomas, and former President Barack Obama, phone banking during his first presidential run.

Ms. Curry remembers how all things 28th Ward worked together for good, and CPD Districts 11, 12 and 13 operated in unison, officers working on the blocks together with residents they served, tight-knit and neighborly. She treasured neighborhood investments in general upkeep, specifically beautification, like keeping lawns manicured, yards organized, and overall property upkeep. She reminisces on the many resources offered through churches, community-based organizations, park districts, libraries, business owners, and the impact personal relationships have on the quality of life and when she and her late husband both owned businesses in the ward.’

Ms. Curry is humbled by her political/public safety activism, and her desire is to get young adults involved in the critical work of supporting policy decisions affecting their daily lives, expressing need for them to take the reins of responsibility for continuing to empower their community. They must understand with the support of the people, politicians have more power to effect change. And that’s the deficit that must be addressed. So, we must keep talking and encouraging those who are not participating. Adding that the older leadership lacked such support, which makes it harder on the present leadership.

She thanks God for her time as a volunteer and happy to still be doing this important work. And we applaud her fierce warrior spirit. To know Ms. Curry is to love her. Her smile, gentle laugh, humility and dignity. Not to mention her always representing in well coifed style. She is someone you should know, still standing tall for the 28th Ward. And in her own words, “if we all pulled someone along, we’d all get somewhere together. That’s what’s lost”. She’s an absolute joy and marvel!
