ANNUAL CITYWIDE COMMUNITY GARDENS GIVEAWAY
Ald. Ervin and Greencorps Encourage Residents to Keep Neighbors Green and Clean
CHICAGO (May 20, 2011) – On June 25th Greencorps Chicago will host its Citywide Annual Distribution Day. Community gardens in Chicago are eligible to receive a variety of annuals green plants.
Certified Greencorps Chicago community gardens are eligible, along with all schools, libraries, public housing communities, religious institutions and block clubs. To become a certified community garden contact Greencorps Chicago at 312-744-8691 or Greencorps@cityofchicago.org or stop by Alderman Jason C. Ervin’s office, 259 N. Pulaski.
“I encourage our community churches, block clubs and others to get involved to continue to beautify our ward,” said Alderman Jason Ervin of the 28th Ward. “We want there to be places in our community for our children to learn about the environment and organic food and Greencorp is helping to provide those places.”
The deadline to register for the Annual Distribution Day is Friday, June 17th. The distribution locations closest for residents of the 28th ward is the Chicago Center for Green Technology, 445 N. Sacramento. Check in starts at 9AM and registrants must arrive on time.
Greencorps Chicago also offers programs which provide community gardens with horticultural guidance, plats, soil, mulch, tools and on-site gardening help. Greencorps Chicago is the city of Chicago’s community gardening and green industry job training program.
